Privacy Policy (DRAFT, not legal advice; have a lawyer review it before publishing)

Gautreaux, LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates Unlock Ahead (unlockahead.com and unlockahead.app) and is the controller of personal information described in this policy. Unlock Ahead helps high-school students plan for college, careers and athletic recruiting. We built it to collect as little as possible.

What we collect and where it lives

• Your planning data (name, graduation year, high school, schools, grades, test scores, activities, recruiting notes, essays, visit plans) is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your private iCloud database. Gautreaux, LLC cannot read it.
• Sign in with Apple: we receive an anonymous Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email (which may be a private relay address). They're stored with your data in your iCloud.
• Family sharing (optional): if you link a parent, the sections you choose are copied to an iCloud share that only invited people can read. You can make a section private or remove a member at any time. To connect two Apple IDs, a one-time code (48 hours) is stored on our server with the first name you enter and the iCloud user id needed to address that private share. We delete it when the code is used, cancelled, or expires. We don't keep a list of your family.

• AI Coach (optional). The coach can work in three ways:

  • On your phone. On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, the coach runs on the device and your chats stay on your phone.
  • Our hosted coach. Your recent chat messages (up to the last 12) and a summary of your plan are sent to our server on Cloudflare. The summary can include your first name, grade and class year, high school, hometown, sports and position, GPA, test scores, height, weight and other athletic measurements, the schools on your list, upcoming dates and career interests. We remove email addresses and phone numbers from the summary before it leaves your phone (not from what you type in a chat), and we tell the coach if you're under 18 so it keeps answers age-appropriate. The coach is Meta's Llama model (Built with Llama) running on Cloudflare Workers AI, and a safety filter (Llama Guard) checks each message and each reply.
  • Your own API key. If you add your own key, your messages and the plan summary go straight from your phone to the AI provider you chose, under that provider's terms. They don't go through our server.

  What happens to hosted coach chats. Our server doesn't save or log your messages or the coach's replies. It keeps only a random install ID and a count of coach messages per day, which it uses for the daily limit. Cloudflare processes chats for us as our service provider. Under Cloudflare's Workers AI terms, it doesn't use them to train AI models and doesn't keep them after your reply is delivered, apart from limited legal or safety exceptions. It may keep basic technical records, like timestamps and request sizes, that don't include what you wrote.

  AI can be wrong. The coach can make mistakes or sound sure about something that isn't true. Check anything important, like deadlines, admission requirements, costs or eligibility rules, with the school, your counselor or the official source. Don't put passwords or other private details in a chat. - Recruiting web page (optional, Pro): if you publish one, the fields you choose (for example name, class, sport, position, GPA, height/weight, contact email, video links) are stored on our server and shown at an unlisted link. We count views per day but never record who viewed (no IPs, cookies or device info). Take it down any time in the app; that deletes the page and its counts. - Check-ins, decision journal, gap-year and resume drafts stay on your device in your profile. They are never sent to family, the coach or us. - School and career data come from public government datasets (College Scorecard, BLS, O*NET, NCES). Looking up a school sends the school name to the College Scorecard API and Wikipedia. No personal data is sent. - Canvas (optional): if you connect your school's Canvas, your access token is stored only in your device Keychain and used only to fetch your grades from your school's Canvas server. - Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive only the purchase status, never your payment details.

What we don't do

No ads. No selling or sharing of personal data. No third-party analytics or tracking. No location tracking. Your home location (for drive times) stays on your device.

Children and teens

• Under 13: the app is not for children under 13. If your graduation year shows you're under 13, the app stops at onboarding and nothing is sent anywhere. If you think a child under 13 gave us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
• 13–17: you can plan on your own. Features that share your data with other people (family sharing and the public recruiting page) need a parent or guardian's OK first, given on your device. Your parent can withdraw it any time in the app. Purchases go through Apple's Ask to Buy.
• We respect App Store age-assurance and parental-consent signals (Declared Age Range) where the law requires them.

Your choices

Delete any item in the app. Delete all data in Settings → Delete my data. This removes local data and your iCloud records. Stop family sharing at any time. Contact support@unlockahead.com for help. Residents of some states (e.g. California) have additional rights; email us to use them.

Changes

We'll post updates here and in the app. Material changes affecting minors may require a parent's consent through the App Store.

Snapchat login (optional, only if enabled)

If you choose "Continue with Snapchat", we receive your Snapchat display name, your Bitmoji avatar image link and an app-specific Snapchat ID. We do not receive your email, phone number, friends or Snaps. The sign-in token stays in your iPhone's Keychain. You can disconnect any time in Profile → Account, or in Snapchat → Settings → Connected Apps. Snapchat is only for users 13 and older.

Signing in

You must sign in with Apple or Snapchat to use the app. From Apple we receive a private account ID and, the first time only, the name and email you choose to share (Apple can hide your real email). From Snapchat we receive your display name, Bitmoji avatar and an account ID. These stay on your device and in your own iCloud copy; we don't run an account server. Delete everything any time in Profile → Delete my account and data.
